Well all eyes are set on Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag, the modern day remake of Sholay, but another movie which will hit the box office this weekend is also a remake, and might just take the fire out of Aag is Victoria No. 203. Of course, at the risk of sounding too optomistic we must add that anything is possible on Friday. Anything, in Bollywood. Victoria No. 203 is a comedy which has a bunch of diamonds at the centre and a range of people trying to lay their hands upon them.

And it has been produced by none other than former actor turned producer Kamal Sadanah. What’s the catch? Kamal is the son of the man who made the original hit, by the same name, a long way back. The movie kicks off with an exhibition of diamonds worth 3 billion Rupees, has the leading stars Javed Jaffery as Bobby Bombata in the role of a rich industrialist and his moll Preeti Jhangiani as Devyani, who want to buy the beautiful diamonds ever since they saw them.

But it is only after the refusal by the owners of the gems to sell them, that Bobby hires a burglar called Tora who becomes successful in getting away with the precious stones. But having a plan of her own, she decides to double cross with her brother Rajesh Khera aka Karan, though her plans are halted when she runs into Kamal Sadanah playing Ranjit. He injures her severely but she manages to escape somehow and this is when the victoria no. 203 comes into play, and she hides the gems in it.

When the Victoria driver Raman, tries to play a good samaritan by taking her to the hospital, he instead is charged with her murder. This leads his daughter Sonia Vinod Mehra aka Sara to take over as the Victoria driver, to keep the kitchen fires burning, little knowing the fact that she is moving around with a treasure trove. It is then that Jimmy Shergill aka Jimmy Joseph in the movie, comes ahead, as one of her customers, only to fall in love with the beauty.

And at the same time, two petty theives, played by Anupam Kher as Raja, and Om Puri as Rana, also join in the fun, when they come to know about the diamond heist. Fresh out of jail, these two set out in search of the diamonds too. And finally, in a great climax, all the characters come together, without any of them having an idea about the diamonds’ whereabouts.

The movie has hit song from the original, ‘do bechare, bina sahare’, which was once crooned by the original duo on screen, Ashok Kumar and Pran. Well, the movie being yet another one of those remakes, has a huge challenge ahead of itself, but tommorow is the D-day, and we hope that this Victoria enjoys a long and successful run at the box office.
