The big victory at the Oscars has begun to sink in now. Rahman was received at the airport by many fans to a wonderful reception. He made history by winning two Oscars for India that night. However, not many may know that he came so close to death the night before while rehearsing for the performance at a theatre. He might not have lived to accept the award. Even thinking about this might send a shiver down the spine of every Indian.

However, in the end all is well that ends well. He escaped without even a scratch on his body. He recalls that after he had done rehearsing for the performance he moved away from his position on the stage and as soon as he moved away, the chandelier from the ceiling came down. If he had not moved, he would have crushed under the weight of the chandelier and died. Rahman had a very close encounter with death that night but was fine in the end.

He said that death is always accompanying you and you cannot change what is going to happen. You should do the best you can every day because it can be all over in a moments time. He said that it might also be that God’s way of telling him how good a time he is having and that he should be thankful. He says that all the well wishes might also have helped.

He also appeared on the show with Oprah Winfrey and when she quizzed him about what was the meaning of his Oscar winning track he replied back saying that victory is yours and that was how it happened at the Oscars.
