Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan were recently approached by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ). They have been associated with animal right protection for a long time and now wanted to raise awareness about the bad condition the lovebirds are in. They have been asked by them to do a photo shoot.

Lovebirds belong to the family of parrots. These are the most commonly birds found in cages at homes and are being openly sold in the market. However not many might be knowing this that it is illegal and a punishable offence to be selling this birds and outing them inside a cage even if at home. For more details, you can refer the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.

Anuradha Sawhney who is the chief of PETA in India recently wrote a letter to Aish and Abhi asking them to be a part of the photo shoot. She said in the letter that two of them being lovebirds were best suited for the shoot and would help in bringing to notice the plight of these small birds. She plans to title the shoot Love Birds in Cages and raise an ad campaign for the awareness.

India has about 1200 species of birds about 300 of which are sold in the black market illegally. Asin was also asked to be associated with PETA but she being a hardcore non-vegetarian decided not being associated with PETA was the best thing for her. Since the time she made her entry into Bollywood, she has restricted her diet to chicken and fish. She cannot do a single meal without non-veg.
