Balika Vadhu is a hit TV serial which is currently being shown at the prime time on Colors TV channel. The channel is quite popular for its serials like Na Aana Is desh Ladoo, Chote Miyan…Jung Nanhe Hansgullon Ki, Jai Shree Krishna and Jeevan Saathi…Bandhan Saat Janmon Ka. Balika Vadhu was launched on 21 July 2008 and since then it is one of the most watched serial of the country. The serial deals with the concept of Child Marraige. The serial is set up in a rural village of Rajasthan where a school going girl, Anandi is married to Jagdish. Jagdish is the grandson of Kalyani Devi aka Dadi Sa, who strongly believes in the olds rituals and superstitions. Jagdish’s father, Bhairav and mother Sumitra are against the marraige of school going kids as they wants them to be mature first so that they can understand each other well.

But because of their respect for Kalyani, they agrees for their son’s marraige. But they are determined to prevent their daughter, Sugna from these old rituals and superstitions. Sugna is engaged to Pratap but Bhairav wants her to go to live in Pratap’s house only when she get mature enough to hold the responsibilities of the house. Kalyani’s another son, Vasant is a widower for whom she selects Gehna for the second marraige. Gehna is much younger to Vasant and is almost of the age of Sugna. Destiny strikes and Pratap is killed by some bandits. Situation become even worse when the family reveals that Sugna is pregnant with Pratap’s child. Sugna refuse to abort the child. It is then another guy named shyam enters in her life and offers to get married with her. What next in store for Kalyani’s family?

Avika Gor and Avinash Mukherjee also playing lead roles in the serial while the other starcast of the serial includes Surekha Sikri, Anoop Soni, Satyajit Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Smita Bansal, Vibha Anand and Bhairavi Raichura in important roles. This particular show has given a strong competition to Ekta Kapoor’s Saas Bahu sagas and even managed to gain more TRP than those serials. The tagline associated with the serial title is ‘Kacchi Umar Ke Pakke Rishte’. Child artist, Avika Gor, has achieved immense popularity for her excellent performance in the serial. But the one who has beated all the other actors of the serial in terms of acting is Surekha Sikri, who is playing the role of ‘Dadi Sa’ in the serial.
