Bollywood musical romantic flick, Barsaat Ki Raat, directed by P. L. Santoshi and written by Bharat Bhushan was released in the year 1960. The movie starred Bharat Bhushan and Madhubala in lead roles while Khursid Bawra, Shyama, Peace Kanwal, Chandrashekhar, S. K. Prem, K. N. Singh, Mumtaz begum, Mirza Musharaf also played significant characters. The melodious music of the movie was composed by the veteran music director Roshan while the songs were crooned by Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle etc.

The movie starts with a guy named Aman ( Bharat Bhushan ), who is forced to stay in a lodge at a stormy night because of heavy rainfall. Aman is working at a good post in a firm. He is in love with a beautiful girl named Shama ( Shyama ) and is planning to get married to her in near future. Aman meets with a beautiful girl in the lodge. She introduces herself as Shabnam ( Madhubala ) to him. After spending some time together, they both get attracted to each other.

Aman and Shabnam then confesses their love to each other. But Aman get shocked when he learns from the lodge owner that there is no such girl with the name of Shabnam is staying the lodge. Aman then tries to find Shabnam alongwith the lodge owner but fails. When he finally returns to his room all alone, she once again appears in front of him. Who is she and why she is not visible to any other person?
