Bhagyashree rose to prominence with her debut movie Maine Pyaar Kiya starring opposite Salman Khan. She till date is referred to as Maine Pyaar Kiya girl. When asked whether she feels that the movie acted as a barrier she refuses to accept that. She says it feels great when people remember you for that one performance. Audiences still remember for Amjad Khan for Gabbar Singh.

The actress was offered many scripts after the movie but she refused to do any movie that required her to be intimate to any other man except her husband. She was newly married at that time. The decision proved to a tough one as the audiences at that time were not ready to accept a real life couple on the screens. The directors felt that she did not intend to do a movie unless paired opposite her husband and no clarification coming from her side she might have lost out on beautiful roles.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are the only real life couple, which has been accepted by the audiences on-screen for their performance in the movie Guru. Kajol and Ajay Devgan have made several unsuccessful attempts. She now has the past behind her and now she wants to do serious movies like A Wednesday and at the same time some light and funny movies Dostana.

She is currently doing a Marathi film Jhak Maarli Baayko in which she loves her husband but he is in an extra marital affair. She does not want to let him as she is very much in love with him. After spending twenty years in the industry she feels as if she has spend only two because of the small amount of work she has done.
