Bollywood stars singing
There are many things that come once in a blue moon from the land of Bollywood, but some of them are really enjoyable for the sheer fact that it’s when the stars take to singing for themselves. It has happened a lot in the past.
For instance, Sridevi did playback singing for herself in the movie, Chandni, where she took to crooning the title song of the movie. Then there was Sanjay Dutt, who did playback singing in the movies Zinda and Munnabhai series, will now be singing again in the movie Alibaug, under the aides of music director Bappi Lahiri this time. And not to mention that he sang with the veteran singer Asha Bhonsle in one of her recently released albums. The song touched a chord with many romantics. And even Aamir Khan did playback singing in the movie Ghulam, which sky rocketed to fame a lesser known Rani Mukerjee back then, while the song ‘ay! kya bolti tu’ better known as the ‘aati kya Khandala’ song refuses to fade out from memory even as it might have faded out from chartbuster countdowns.
And guess which two biggies are the most loved when they get hold of the microphone in the recording studio, when they are not acting? You guessed it right, it’s none other than Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. While Amitabh Bachchan got popular for his singing with the album ‘Eir Bir Phatte’ in the 90’s, it wasn’t before Shah Rukh Khan put to test his vocal cords in Josh, that he was considered for singing again. The song ‘apun bola, tu meri laila’ was very popular indeed. Amitabh, after his refreshing comeback post-KBC did sing in many movies like Baghban, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Don, Amar Akbar Anthony and Kabhie Kabhie, but these days his voice for singing is more aptly provided by Sudesh Bhosle who has done moost of playback singing for him. On the other hand, SRK hasn’t done much, but would be doing it soon for Farah Khan’s next movie.
It’s not that only male actors from Bollywood do the singing. A few years back we had Kareena Kapoor singing in the movie Dev, a very emotional song ‘jab nahi aaye the tum’, while Priyanka Chopra who has a silky voice is yet to do it for a film, even as her recent singing on the popular show Jai Jawan on NDTV, will help her bag somewhat more than just acting. Not to mention, that Aishwarya Rai too sang in Josh, as well as Bride And Prejudice. Well, we hope that all of them do not take up Classical Indian Singing as this will giveour really talented music industry’s playback singers , a run for their money! But we sure would like to see them singing, once in a while, every now and then.
