Last to last friday two biggies were in the arena, one was charming Shahrukh Khan and the other one was dynamic Sunny Deol. But once again there is Shahrukh Khan all over in the game. His non-glam avatar in CHAK DE INDIA has done all the deeds itself and also supported by the audience too. While in KAAFILA, Sunny deol, despite playing a pakistani first time in his carrier is failed to make any mark on audience.

CHAK DE INDIA despite having a slow start has been successfull in winning tremendous acclaim from all quarters of masses. Director Shimit Aman deserves thunders of applause for making a film with the biggie Shahrukh Khan, bringing him in an unconventional role. The film was also helped by 15 August ( Independence day), as the central theme of the movie was somewhat patriotism. CHAK DE INDIA really had a glorious weekend. With Saturday and Sunday figures at Box Office( the rise in collections was almost magical), CHAK DE INDIA would’ve been declared a massive Hit. But the movie dissapoints in overseas collections. CHAK DE INDIA only managed to collect $259,871 from UK and approx. $351,887 from US.

KAAFILA, on the other hand, opened with approximately 40% at several screens. And being a ‘punjab da puttar’, Sunny Deol was successfull in getting viewers from punjab as there CHAK DE INDIA had only 10-20% start. Looks like whatever Sunny Deol will do would be appreciated by punjab region. KAAFILA looked a good movie on paper but turned out to be a badly made product in the end.

One more movie which was also released last week was Vishal Bhardwaj’s THE BLUE UMBRELLA. The film actually has had a poor start everywhere. But may be with word of mouth publicity it could gather momentum. The movie is truely a well made product with excellent performance of Pankaj Kapoor.
