What’s common between movies like Munnabhai M.B.B.S, Kal Ho Na Ho, and now Chak De India? Well, considering the fact that you must have read the heading of this article on this site, you get no brownie points for guessing that the movie which has caught everyone’s imagination in India, will now make the nation proud by being one of those real masterpieces which have been bestowed the honour to be a part of the Oscar library.

The flick has made all the right moves at the box office by aptly handling sensitive subjects like hatred, jealousy, discrimination and sexism. And now, a copy of Chak De India!’s screenplay has been sent toAcademy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, which is also responsible for hosting and handing out the Oscar Awards. It will now be a part of it’s much famed script collection.

The very fact that the movie’s screenplay has been invited to be a part of such a great library, affirms the fact that the movie is now immortalised in not just Indian but international cinema as well. It will serve as a benchmark for the many generations to follow and also be one of those rare films including Rang De Basanti, and Lage Raho Munnabhai, which are being cited as a reason for the youth now feeling far much more proud of their country than a few years back, when they used to scoff at it.

Last year, one movie which made all of us really proud was Krrish, because it was not just the movie, but it’s marketing as well, which made it a part of the syllabi at the prestigious and now world-famous Indian Institute of Management.

These scripts at the Oscar library are available only for research purposes and are kept at the Margaret Herrick Library, better known as the Oscar Library. And a few others movie which have made it to this prestigious place are Lagaan, Salaam Namaste, Phir Hera Pheri, Taxi No. 9211, and Namaste London.
