Dawn of a new era at Dharma productions: Karan
One look at the preview of Wake Up Sid and you can instantly tell that there is no Karan Johar element present in the movie. The grandeur of the magnum opus sets that you associate with Karan are not there nor are the glamorous backgrounds and gloss. A very clear indication that is was a one-man show that was being run by the youngster Ayan Mukerji.
Now there are reasons as to why there was this absence of Karan from a project of his. his company is making movies like Kurbaan being directed by Rensil D’Souza, Koochie Koochie Hota Hai being directed by Tarun Mansukhani how will also be doing the sequel for Dostana. Then there are more debutant directors in the form of Siddharth Malhotra, Punit Malhotra and Karan Malhotra who will be getting their first breaks with movies like the Hindi version of Stepmom, I Hate Love Stories and then remake of Agneepath.
With so much going on at the same time, you have to place your trust on the person whom you have entrusted to direct the movie and believe in them and their talent. Above all Wake Up Sid was entirely conceptualized by Ayan and in no way could Karan have interfered, moreover he is the same age as Sid so he can connect with the charcter, which obviously Karan cannot.
He will be there when anyone needs him but otherwise he does not want to clutter the minds of these debutants who are already filled up ideas. He besides all this has his masterpiece My Name Is Khan that will get ready for release sometime in the start of next year.
