Deepa Mehta has given her work a back seta for the time being. At present, she is very busy with her daughter’s wedding. The wedding will take place at her countryside farmhouse in Canada. Her daughter will get married to Ian Chodikoff. Ian is a Canadian and is a professional architect and the editor of the Canadian Architect magazine.

Deepa is very happy with the son in law her daughter has chosen for her. She herself has had a failed marriage but she has not lost faith in the institution of marriage and always though nicely of Ian. The wedding will very much be a family affair. Deepa’s mother and brother have already flown in for the wedding. The wedding has been scheduled to take place on 12 September.

The rituals performed at the ceremony will be a mix of Christian and Hindu ones. Akshay Kumar who will be playing the lead role in Deepa’s upcoming movie Kamagata Maru will be the only celebrity present at the wedding. Only after the wedding is over will Deepa get back to her projects. She will finalize the caste of Midnight’s Children.

Salman Rushdie who is the author of the novel has expressed his desire to caste Imran Khan in the male lead. Deepa has already made it final that Shabana Azmi, Nandita Das and Seema Biswas all will be a part of the movie. She has worked with all of them in the past and the critics very well received their performances. She also spoke of the debacle of her movie Videsh recently that the aim of the movie was to discourage marriage without ascertaining the credentials of the NRI’s.
