Bollywood family drama, Ek Hi Rasta, directed by B. R. Chopra and written by Mukhram Sharma was released in the year 1956. The movie starred Sunil Dutt and Meena Kumari in lead roles while Ashok Kumar, Shreenath, Jeevan, Kumari Naaz, Uma Dutt, Radha Krishan, Ravikant and Radhika also played significant characters. The hit veteran music of the movie was composed by the music director Hemanta Mukherjee while the songs were crooned by Lata Mangeshkar and Hemanta Mukherjee himself.

Amar ( Sunil Dutt ) is happily married to a beautiful women named Malti ( Meena Kumari ). He is living a middle class lifestyle alongwith his wife and a young son, Raja. Amar is working in the firm of a guy named Prakash Mehta ( Ashok Kumar ). Prakash is unmarried but after seeing the happy married life of Amar, he also decides to get married. Amar reveals about some criminal work happening in the firm. He tells this to Prakash which results in the arrest of two employees.

Amar is then gets killed in an accident leaving behind his devastated wife, Malti and son Raja. Malti keeps the news of Amar’s death a secret from Raja. Prakash comes forward for their help. But Prakash’s frequent visits to Malti’s house leads to rumours about their intimacy. In order to stop all these rumours, Prakash offers to get married to malti. Soon they both get married but Raja starts considering Prakash responsible for his father’s death.
