Amar Akbar Anthony, directed and produced by Manmohan Desai, was released in the year 1977. The films starred Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor in the lead roles of three brothers. Shabana Azmi, Parveen Babi and Neetu Singh were in the female leads of the film. Pran, Nirupa Roy and Jeevan played the supporting roles in the film.

The movie was about three brothers who got separated during their childhood and adopted by three persons of different religions. The elder one Amar ( Vinod Khanna ) becomes a Police officer, Anthony ( Amitabh Bachchan ) becomes a ’street gunda’ and Akbar ( Rishi Kapoor ) becomes a famous singer or qawaal. Later the boys came to know about their relationship. Their family reunited in the end and the person responsible for their bad days got punished. The film is still extremely popular among the people. Amitabh Bachchan won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in thie film.

The music of the film was given by the duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Kishore Kumar and Mohammed rafi sahab did the playback singing for Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor respectively.
