Lata Mangeshkar was born on September 28, 1929 in a Maharashtrian family of Madhya Pradesh. She is one of the most famous as well as successful playback singer of bollywood. She has sung songs in over twenty regional Indian languages. She is the elder sister of renowned singer, Asha Bhonsle. Lata is also the proud holder of ‘Bharat Ratna‘.

After her father’s death, Lata moved to Mumbai with her family and started her career as a singer and an actress. She took lessons in Hindustani classical music from Ustad Amanat Ali Khan Bhendibazaarwale. Lata sang songs for all the acclaimed music directors of the period including Shankar-Jaikishan, Naushad, S. D. Burman, Khayyam, Kalyanji-Anandji etc.

Lata sang many songs for legendary Naushad in movies like Baiju Bawra, Mughal-E-Azam. Shankar-Jaikishan also gave various superhit songs with Lata in the movie like Aag, Shree 420 etc. Lata Mangeshkar was praised by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for rendering the patriotic song Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon in such a beautiful way. She has also won six Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards till now.
