Vikram Bhatt directed Raaz was released in the year 2002. The movie starred Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu in the lead roles. The other actors who performed important roles in the film are Ashutosh Rana, Malini Sharma and Shruti Ulfat. The film was inspired by What Lies Beneath. It was one of the top grossing films of the year 2002. Bipasha was not the first choice of Vikram for the role of Sanjana. The role was first offered to Lisa Ray but she refused to do the film because of some personal problems.

The story of the film is based on the story of a couple Aditya Dhanraj ( Dino Morea ) and Sanjana Dhanraj ( Bipasha Basu ), who are trying every possible way to save their failing marriage. In the process they moved to Ooty for spending time with each other. They are accompanied by common friends Priya ( Shruti Ulfat ) and Ajay ( Anang Desai ). But strange things starts to happen in the house. A ghost of a unkown lady tries to haunt Sanjana. Very soon Sanjana discovers that her husband is a part of the ghostly conspiracy. She decides to find the truth in which Professor Agni Swaroop ( Ashutosh Rana ) also helps her. But the real truth behind the ghostly conspiracy revealed, Sanjana finds it hard to believe. Now her only aim is to save her husband’s life from the deadly ghost. How she fix everything is the rest of the story. Abhijeet, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik did the playback singing in the film.
