Dharmendra was born as Dharam Singh Deol on December 8, 1935 in Phagwara, Punjab. He longs to a Punjabi family. He is married to ‘Dream Girl’, Hema Malini and is the father of four childrens. Three of his children Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Esha Deol are working as an accompalished actors in the bollywood industry. Dharmendra started his acting career as a romantic hero in 1960 released Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. He did many romantic films in the start of his career in the form of Bandini, Anpadh, Aayi Milan Ki Bela, Kaajal etc.

He also tried his hands in comedy with Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Chupke Chupke. But he actually shot to stardum after working in action films. The action films established him as the ‘He-Man‘ of the Hindi film industry. The most successful action film of Dharmendra was Sholay in which he was teamed up with none other than Amitabh Bachchan. He almost overshadowed the angry young man image of Big B in that film.

Besides acting he also experimented with film production but failed to do well in that. He launched Sunny in Betaab and then Bobby in Barsaat. He made a strong comeback in bollywood by doing character roles in the films like Life In A Metro, Apne and Jhonny Gaddar. In Anil Sharma’s Apne, he was seen alogwith Sunny and Bobby in the film. He was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Hindi cinema.
