Bollywood fantasy thriller, Ajooba, directed by Shashi Kapoor was released on April 12, 1991. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in lead roles while Sonam, Shammi Kapoor, Amrish Puri, Ariadna Shengelaya, Saeed Jaffrey, Sushma Seth, Dalip Tahil and Dara Singh also played important characters in the movie. The music of the film was given by the music director duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal in the collaboration with Varaj Bhatia and Aleksei Rybnikov while the sonsg were rendered by Sudesh Bhonsle, Mohammed Aziz, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Anuradha Paudwal, Alka Yagnik etc.

Sultan ( Shammi Kapoor ) of Baharistan is ruling there happily with his wife, Mallika ( Ariadna Shengelaya ) and his new born son. But Vazir-e-ala ( Amrish Puri ) abducts the magician Amir Khan ( Saeed Jaffrey ) and with the help of his magical chain tries to kill Sultan and his family. Sultan and his wife somehow manage to escape from there but in the process looses contact with their son. Vazir-e-ala assumes that Sulatsn is dead alongwith his family. Sultan and Mallika also get seperated. Sultan looses his memory while Mallika becomes blind.

Years later, a common man named Ali ( Amitabh Bachchan ) decides to stand against the Vazir-e-ala and wears the mask Ajooba, the saviour. Hassan ( Rishi Kapoor ), friend of Ali, also accompany him in this task. On the other hand, Vazi-e-ala is also trying to ensure his rule over Baharistan forever. Ajooba also manage to find out that the real Sultan and Mallika of Baharistan are alive. He brings them there and announces the straight fight against Vazi-e-ala.
