The romantic movie Albela was released on April 20, 2001 under the banner of Tips Music Films. The movie was directed by Deepak Sareen and produced by Kumar S Taurani. The lead roles in the movie were played by Aishwarya Rai, Jackie Shroff, Govinda and Namrata Shirodkar while Saeed Jaffrey and Maya Alagh were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Jatin-Lalit while the songs were sung by Alka Yagnik, Babul Supriyo, Hariharan, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu and Sonu Nigam.

The movie Albela was a simple romantic movie that showcases no melodrama and no over acting by the stars. The movie looks real and true in every sense. The movie was shot in Malaga, a scenic town in Goa and revolves around Tony ( Govinda ) who is a tourist guide who takes the life as it comes. He is a happy kind of a person who just wants to make most of the opportunities provided to him. The twist in the story comes when he was told by an astrologer that a girl from across the seas will enter his life and his life will change after he meets her.

The prediction proved to be true when Tony came across Sonia ( Aishwarya Rai ) while he was waiting for his customers at some airport. Tony finds that she has light eyes and she must be his princess. He thus introduces himself as the touust guide. But the twist in the story was that she was not a tourist and was in Goa to look for her mother’s grave. There was someone unhappy with their relationship, she was Nina ( Namrata Shirodker ), Tony’s childhood friend who always loved him.
