Bollywood family drama, Annadata, directed by Asit Sen and written by Anil Ahuja was released in the year 1972. The movie starred Anil Dhawan and Jaya Bhaduri in lead roles while Asit Sen, Om Prakash, Dulari, Krishnakant, Leela Mishra, Kanhaiyalal, Brahm Bhardwaj and Praveen paul also played significant characters in the film. The hit melodious music of the movie was directed by none other than well knwon music director Salil Chaudhary while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Manna dey, Lata mangeshkar etc.

The movie starts with a beautiful girl named Aarti ( Jaya Bhaduri ), who decides to look after a child named Kundan after the death of her father. Kundan has lost his legs because of paralysis. Aarti works hard to raise Kundan. A painter named Arun ( Anil Dhawan ) is secretly in love with Aarti and wants to get married with her. But the rpoblem is that he is poor and will not be able to provide a living to a family. Then neters an old man anmed Amba Prasad ( Om Prakash ) in Aarti’s life. Amba Prasad is ill and Aarti offers to look after him until he recovers from his illness.

Amba Prasad starts living alongwith Aarti and Kundan in their house. Arun gets a good amount after selling one of his painting and he manage to buy artificial leags for Kundan. Amba Prasad starts showering love on Kundan, Aarti and Arun. But little does Aarti and Arun knows is that Amba Prasad is a very wealthy man and has escaped from his house after being blamed of having sexual relationship with the girl, who he had brought up.
