Appu Raja was an action film released in the year of 1990 under the banner of Rajkamal Films Int. The movie was directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and produced by Kamal Hassan. The important roles in the movie were played by Kamal Hassan, Roopini, Gautami and Srividya while the roles of Mouli, Manorama and Jai Shankar were also important. The music of the film was directed by Illaiyaraja and the songs were sung by S. Janaki, Asha Bhosle, Kamal Hassan and S.P.Balasubramaniam.

Appu Raja was an action movie featuring Kamal Hassan in the lead double roles. The movie was titled as “Apoorva Sahodarargal” in Tamil and was released as Appu Raja in the Hindi language. The story of the movie revolves around Sethupathi ( Kamal ) who is an honest police officer. He once arrested the four dangerous criminals Dharmaraj ( Nagesh ), Francis ( Ganesh ), Nallasivam ( Nasser ) and Satyamoorthy( Jaishankar ). To take the revenge from him, when they got out they killed him and poisoned his pregnant wife.

However, she managed to escape from their hold and gave birth to twins Appu ( Kamal ) a circus clown, and Raja ( Kamal ), a mechanic. Subsequently she had to leave her one son behind to save her life. She took Appu with her but left Raja. Due to the poison, Appu was a dwarf and thus worked in a circus. Ironically Raja came across and fell in love with a girl who was he daughter of one of his father’s killers. Appu got to know the whole story and started plotting the murders of the enemies.
