Bollywood action drama, Avaam, directed by B. R. Chopra was released in the year 1987. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Smita Patil in lead roles while Ashok Kumar, Nana Patekar, Raj Babbar, Poonam Dhillon, Saeed Jaffrey, Vijay Arora, Shafi Inamdar, Om Shivpuri, Deepak Parashar, Sushma Seth and Shreeram Lagoo also played important characters in the film. The hit melodious music of the movie was composed by the the well knwon veteran music director Rahul Dev Burman while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle etc.

The movie starts with a guy named Amar Kumar ( Rajesh Khanna ), who is acaptain in Indian Army and is living alongwith his parents. His father was a freedom fighter but he never took any advantage of that thing like his friends, Jagrathana ( Om Shivpuri ) and Mohanlal ( Shafi Inamdar ) did. Amar goes to Delhi and there he meets with Mohanlal. Mohanlal offers him the job of personal secretarywith jagrathan but he refuses to it. Jagrathan’s son, Surendra ( Deepak Parashar ), who is pilot by profession is got killed by someone. Soon Jagrathan also get killed. But before dying, Jagrathan asks attending doctor, Shabnam ( Smita Patil ) to handover a key to Amar.

Shabnam then delivers the key to Amar who alongwith Rafiq Jaffri starts searching for the lock of the key. Meanwhile Shabnam is attacked by some goons but Amar comes to her rescue and saves her. Amar is then framed in a wrond case and get court-martialed from Army. But Amar is still determined to unravel the truth of Jagrathan and his son’s murder mystery and when he finally reveals the truth, he gets the biggest shock of his life.
