Bollywood family drama, Bairaag, directed by Asit sen and written by Abrar Alvi was released in the year 1976. The movie starred Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu in lead roles while Leena Chandavarkar, Prem Chopra, Nasir Hussain, Madan Puri, Sujit Kumar, Leela Mishra and Poornima also played importanat characters in the film. The melodious hit music of the film was directed by the well known music director duo Kalyanji-Anandji while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle etc.

Bholanath ( Dilip Kumar ) is a blind guy who is living alongwith a wealthy family of Thakur Chandrabhan. Tara ( Saira Banu ) is the granddaughter of Chandrabhan. Tara’s marraige is arranged to a wealthy guy named Pratap Singh ( Prem Chopra ), who demands a big amount as dowry. But Chandrabhan is not capabale of arranging that amount. Bholanath comes to his rescue and offers the amount to him which he has been stashing away from a long time and is gaurded by a snake. Bholanath is bitten by that sanke and regains his sight.

Bholanath decides to go to Pratap Singh to tell him that the money for the dowry has been arranged by Chadrabhan. He returns to village only to learn that Tara is in love with him since childhood and is now wants to get married with him at any cost. After spending some time with Bholanath, Tara starts noticing something different in him.
