Yesteryear hit romantic flick, Barsaat, directed by Raj Kapoor was released in the year 1949. The movie starred Raj Kapoor and Nargis in lead roles while Prem Nath and Nimmi played supporting roles in theangeshkar film. The superhit music of the film was given by famous music director duo Shankar Jaikishen and the songs were sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh. The movie went on to do well among audiences as well as the box office window.

The movie starts with a young dashing guy, Pran ( Raj Kapoor) and beautiful Reshma ( Nargis ). Pran’s close friend Gopal ( Prem Nath ) is also having an affair with a sweet girl named Neela ( Nimmi ). Both the friends belongs to rich families but are totally different in nature from each other. While Pran is a sensitive person, Gopal is quite womanizing type of character. Reshma and Neela are two mountain girls. The story actually starts when Gopal ditches Neela.

Gopal manage to convince Neela to wait for his return with the barsaat season. On the other hand, Pran and Reshma faces a strong opposition from their parents. Resham is also forced to get married to someone else. But their determination and love for each other finally reunite them in the end. Meanwhile, Gopal also becomes a changed person and decides to go back to his true love. But he arrives there only to find that Neela is dead by the time.
