The horror and thriller movie Bhoot was released on May 30, 2003 under the banner of Dream Merchants Enterprise. The movie was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and produced by Nitin Manmohan. The key roles in the movie were played by Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan, Urmila Matondkar and Rekha while Nana Patekar and Victor Banerjee were also there in the film. Music of the film was directed by Anand Raj Anand and the songs were sung by Salim Merchant, Asha Bhosle, Clinton Cerejo, Gayatri Ganjawala and Usha Uthup.

Nitin Manmohan and Ramgopal Varma decided to pair again to produce their horror thriller Bhoot. It is a supernatural story set in the backdrop of Mumbai. The movie is mostly about a stock analyst named Vishal ( Ajay Devgan ) and his wife Swati ( Urmila Matondakar ). Both wanted a place to live in Mumbai. Finding a flat was not easy but Vishal finds one on 12th floor of a high-rise apartment building which has a horrifying past. The woman who lived there earlier had jumped from the balcony and died.

Not being a superstitious person, Vishal decides to live in there and does not even care to tell his wife about the stories. From the first day itself, Swati started experiencing something strange. She soon comes to know about the woman who lived there earlier. She was so much gripped by the phobia that she began seeing the things. She was now convinced that a Bhoot is living in their house. While on the other hand, Vishal thinks that she is suffering from some psychological problem. But now he will be required to explore the past to save his wife.
