The social drama Clerk was released in the year of 1989. The movie was directed as well as produced by Manoj Kumar. The actors in the lead roles were Manoj Kumar, Mohd Ali, Rekha and Zeba while the presence of Anita Raaj, Shashi Kapoor, Prem Chopra, Ashok Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha and Rajendra Kumar supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Jagdish Khanna and Uttam Singh while the songs were sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Rekha, Manoj Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor and Bhupinder.

Clerk was a social drama that revolved mostly around a man named Satyapati ( Ashok Kumar ) who lives a middle classed lifestyle in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi, along with his wife, Kaushalya ( Dina Pathak ), three sons Ram ( Mohammad Ali ), Bharat ( Manoj Kumar ), Balram ( Rajiv Goswami ), and a lovely daughter, Tulsi ( Sonika Gill ). He used to be a soldier fighting for India’s independence in Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj and then later served in the army after India got its independence.

Satyapati is now a retired person who is living on his meager pension which is not that sufficient to take his own load. Ram was also in the army but suffered major losses as he lost his leg and disfigured his right side of face before being thrown out of the army. He also suspected his wife Rukmani ( Zeba ) of prostitution. Bharat worked as a Clerk with the Ministry of Defence, while Balram and Tulsi are collegians.
