Bollywood musical romantic flick, Deedar, directed by Nitin Bose and written by Azm Bazidpuri was released in the year 1951. The movie starred Ashok Kumar and Nargis in lead roles while Dilip Kumar, Baby Anwari, Tabassum, Parikshat, Surendra, Niharika devi and Nimmi also played significant characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was composed by the legendary music director named Naushad while the songs were crooned by Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Shamshad Begum etc.

Shamu ( Dilip Kumar ) is living alongwith his mother. He is working in a firm of Daulatram Rai. He is in love with Daulatram’s daughter named mala ( Nargis ). One day while riding a horse, Shamu unintentionally make Mala injured as a result of which he is thrown out by Dualatram. Shamu and his mother relocate to some other place. Shamu’s mother passes away and he is left in the care of his uncle. In an accident Shamu ends up loosing her eyesight and becomes totally dependent on his uncle.

Years later, Shamu’s uncle has passed away and he is living alongwith uncle’s only daughter, Champa ( Nimmi ). Shamu makes his living by singing publicily. Champa is in love with Shamu but Shamu is still in love with Mala. One day, Dr, Kishore ( Ashok Kumar ) hears his song and get impressed by him. He offers to restore his eyesight free of cost to which Shamu reluctantly agrees.
