Bollywood movie, Deedar, directed by Pramod Chakraborthy was releassed on August 14, 1992. The movie starred Akshay Kumar and Karishma Kapoor in lead roles while Tanuja, Anupam Kher, Ajit Vachani, Viju Khote, Rajeev Verma, Anjana Mumtaz and Laxmikant Berde also played important characters in the movie. The music of the film was given by famous music director duo Anand-Milind while the songs were sung Udit Narayan, Sadhana Sargam, Alka Yagnik etc. The movie was the debut film of Akshay Kumar as a leading hero in the bollywood industry.

The movie starts with young and handsome Anand Malhotra ( Akshay Kumar ), who is the son of a wealthy businessman, Kailashnath Malhotra ( Rajiv Verma ). Anand meets with a beautiful girl named Sapna Saxena ( Karishma Kapoor ), who is the daughter of a widow, Gayetri saxena ( Tanuja ). Anand falls in love with Sapna and wans to get married with her. Kailashnath Malhotra decides to go with his son’s choice and starts preparation for the marriage of Anand and Sapna. But he feels insulted when on the engagement day, Gayetri and Sapna goes somewhere else leaving behind angry Kailashnath.

Kailashnath decides that he will never let his son to marry Sapna at any cost. but Anand wants to find out the reason behind the strange behaviour of Gayetri and Sapna. He ask Gayetri regarding their behaviour but she refused to tell him anything. But Gayetri tells him straight that his marraige with Sapna in not possible. Anand knows that Sapna loves him and wants to marry him. Anand is determined to know the reason behind Gayetri’s disapproval and starts his search to uncover the truth.
