Former bollywood actor, Farooq Sheikh, made his debut in Hindi film industry with a movie titled Garam Hawa in the eyear 1973. However, the movie failed to get noticed by the audiences as well as by the other filmmakers. He then did another movie titled Mere Saath Chal which too resulted in the same way like previous one. He finally made his presence felt in 1977 released Shatranj Ke Khiladi. In his next film, Noorie, he played a very substantial role opposite the lead actress of the film, Poonam Dhillon. He also won postivie reviews for his performance in Rekha starrer Umrao Jaan.

He did some average movies like Chasme Baddoor, Bazaar, Kisi se Na Kehna etc. He gave another memorable performance in 1983 released Rang Birangi. He then gave a series of flop films in the form of Lakhon Ki Baat, Yahan Wahan, Lorie, Faasle etc. He gave another hit film titled Peecha Karo in the year 1987 followed by another hit titled Biwi Ho Toh Aisi in which he co starred Rekha and Salman Khan. The movie was the debut movie of Salman in which he played a supporting character.

Farooq then turned towards doing supporting roles in the films and did movies like Gharwali Bharawali, Doosra Kanoon etc. He was seen in the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s friend in the movie titled Toofan. He also played an important character in Shahrukh Khan and Deepa Sahi starrer controversial film titled Maya Memsaab. The last bollywood flick in which he acted was 1997 released Mohabbat.
