Bollywood family drama, Imaandar, directed by Sushil Malik and written by Kulwant jain was released on April 3, 1987. The movie starred Sanjay Dutt and Farha Naaz in lead roles while Vikas Anand, Satyendra Kapoor, Huma Khan, Sudhir dalvi, Rohan Kapoor, Shashi Kiran, Chandrashekhar, Dinesh Hingoo, Pran, Mehmood and Ranjeet also played significant characters in the film. The hit music of the movie was directed by the hit veterean music director duo Kalyanji Anandji while the songs were crooned by Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle etc.

Rajesh aka Raju ( Sanjay Dutt ) has been brought up in an orphanage. He is then adopted by a women named Amina ( Shammi ), who is fond of children but has no child of her own. Amina also adopts another child named Vijay ( Rohan Kapoor ) from the same orphanage. Raju and Vijay treats each other as real life brothers. Vijay wants to study higher to become an engineer as he wants to fullfill the wish of his dead father. But he lacks resources. Rau then decides to help him. He provides him money everytime and finally manage to send him London for his higher studies.

In London, Vijay come across a rich businessman named Rai Saheb ( Pran ). Rai Saheb get impressed by him and starts treating him just like his son. But nfortunately Rai Saheb is forced to return to India as his only daughter, Renu ( Farha Naaz ) is ill. Renu is a spoilt daughter of Rai Saheb, who wants him to get her engaged to a handsome hunk named Kailash ( Sumeet Saigal ). However, Rai Saheb strictly oppose this relationship and wants her to get married with someone else.
