Bollywood family drama, Joshila, directed by Yash Chopra and written by Akhtar-Ul-Iman was released on October 19, 1973. The movie starred Dev Anand and Hema Malini in lead roles while Rakhee Gulzar, Madan Puri, Pran, Vikas Anand, Manmohan Krishna, Bindu, Iftekhar, I. S. Johar, Jagdish Raj, Sulochana latkar and Padma Khanna also played important characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was directed by none other than well knwon veteran music director Rahul Dev Burman while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle.

The movie starts with a beautiful young girl named Shalini ( Hema Malini ), who is the daughter of Jailer ( Manmohan Krishan ). Shalini is a poet by profession. One day while reciting her poem in jail, she meets with a young and handsome guy named Amar ( Dev Anand ), who introduces himself as a poet. Soon they both get attracted towards each other. Shalini then decides to find out the reason for which Amar is in jail. She get shocked to reveal that Amar is in jail because of killing the brother of his former beloved, Sapna ( Rakhee Gulzar ).

Shalini investigate about the case and reveals that Amar is innocent. Now she decides to prove the innocence of Amar in court anyhow. as she is depply in love with him. In the process of proving Amar’s innocence, she herself gets into truoble. It is then Amar escape from jail and saves Shalini from a certain death. Now they both decides to unravel the truth of that murder together.
