Bollywood movie, Junglee, written and directed by Subodh Mukherjee was released on Jan 1, 1961. The movie starred Shammi Kapoor and Saira Banu in lead roles while Shahikala, Lalita Pawar and Anoop Kumar also played important characters in the film. The evergreen music of the movie was given by the famous duo Shankar-Jaikishan and the songs were sung by Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle and Mukesh. The movie was the debut film of actress Saira Banu and she eventually earned a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress for this film. The song ‘ Yaahoo chahe koi mujhe junglee kahe ‘ picturised on Shammi Kapoor became a huge hit at that time. The film also became a superhit at the box office.

The movie starts with a guy Chandrashekhar ( Shammi Kapoor ), who belongs to a rich family run by his dominating mom ( Lalita Pawar ). His mother believes that laughter is a sign of belonging to the lower class and therefore no one is allowed to laugh in the house. But Shekar’s sister Mala ( Shashikala ) does not believes in all this. She is in love with Jeevan ( Anoop Kumar ). When her mother learns about this, she asks Shekar to take Mala away from their home to Kashmir for few days. She also arranges Shekar’s marraige with a girl, who also belongs to a rich family.

On reaching Kashmir, Shekar meets up with beautiful girl named Rajkumari ( Saira Banoo ). After spending a night in the company of her during a snowstorm, he realizes that he is missing something very special in his life. He then becomes a care free man, much to the delight of his sister Mala. Shekar falls in love with Rajkumari. But when his mother comes to know about the whole scenerio, she becomes quite angry to him.
