Rajesh Khanna and Shabana Azmi starrer family drama, Karm, was released in the year 1977. The movie was directed by B. R. Chopra under the banner of B. R. Films. The other starcast of the movie includes Vidya Sinha, Iftekhar, Om Shivpuri, Jagdish Raj, Asrani, Kumari Naaz, Achala Sachdev and Prema Narayan in important roles. The evergreen melodious music of the movie was given by the veteran well known music director Rahul Dev Burman while the songs were beautifully sung by Mahendra Kapoor, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Asha Bhonsle etc.

The movie starts with a retired judge named Shyamlal Kumar ( Iftekhar ), who is living a wealthy lifestyle alongwith his wife and son named Arvind ( Rajesh Khanna ). Arvind wants to be a judge one day like his father. He is studying law in a college and is on his way to become a lawyer. Arvind come across a beautiful girl named Asha Shastri ( Vidya Sinha ) and instantly falls in love with her. Asha too get attracted towards him. They both decides to get married to each other. Asha introduces arvind to her father, who gives his nod for their marriage. Arvind’s parents also have no objection to this marriage. But problem arises when Asha’s father, Chintamani Shashtri ( Manmohan Krishna ) reveals about the dark future ahead of this couple.

He opposes to this marriage and so as Arvind’s parents. They don‘t want Arvind and Asha to get marreid to each other as Chintamani’s prediction always prove to be accurate. Arvind is asked to marry someone else but he refuses. Arvind and Asha then starts living with each other without marriage much to the anger of their parents. Arvind and Asha are blaclisted from the society. Asha becomes pregnant but little does she knows is that Arvind already has fallen in love with another girl named Neelam Shukla ( Shabana Azmi ). What will happen to this relationship now?
