Bollywood patriotic action thriller, Karma, directed by Subhash Ghai was released on August 8,1986. The movie starred Dilip Kumar, Naseeruddin Shah, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in lead roles while Anupam Kher, Nutan, Poonam Dhillon, Tom Alter, Shakti Kapoor and Dara Singh also played important roles in the movie. The music of the film was given by veteran music director duo, Laxmikant Pyarelal while the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Sukhwinder Singh, Suresh Wadkar, Mahendra Kapoor, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Mohammed Aziz and Manhar Udhas.

The movie starts with Jailer Vishwanath Pratap Singh aka Rana ( Dilip Kumar ), who treats criminals with love and always taught them patriotism. His family comprises of his wife, two sons and their wives and a grandson. Problem arises when international criminal Dr. Michael Deng ( Anupam Kher ) comes in his Jail. After seeing his bad behaviour to gaurds, Vishwanatah Pratap Singh slaps him hard. Dr. Deng becomes angry and promise him to give a very bad result in the end. Dr. Deng escapes from the jail and also kills Pratap’s whole family except his wife.

His wife Rukmani ( Nutan ) loses her vocal chords after that incident. Pratap decides to destroy the whole kingdom of Dr. Deng. He chooses three criminal for performing this job and with the help of his minister friend bring them out of the jail. He renames himself as Dada Thakur and alongwith those three criminals, Khairuddin Kishti ( Naseeruddin Shah ), Baiju Thakur ( Jackie Shroff ) and Gyaneshwar aka Johnny ( Anil Kapoor ). But Pratap in deep of his heart knows that how difficult is this task.
