Katha was a comedy drama released in the year of 1983. The movie was directed by Sai Paranjpe and produced by Suresh Jindal. The major roles in the movie were played by Farooq Sheikh, Naseruddin Shah, Deepti Naval and Malika Sarabhai while the roles of Jalal Aga, Tinu Anand, Sudha Chopra, Rita Rani Kaul, Sarika, Arun Joglekar and Yatin Karyekar were equally important. The music of the film was directed by Rajkamal while the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar.

Katha was a comic movie also full of social drama that revolved mostly around a man named Rajaram P. Joshi ( Naseeruddin Shah ) who is a middle class man living a simple and not so wealthy life in the chawls of Bombay. He is a clerk by profession and in deep and secret love with his neighbor named Sandhya Karnik ( Deepti Naval ). He loved her a lot but was unable to express his feelings to her. The movie takes a turn when he is visted by his friend.

Rajaram is one day visited by his friend named Bashudev ( Farooq Shaikh ) who has a habit of talking a lot. It didn’t seem that he had visited his house for the first time; it was like he has a habit of visiting him. The twist in the movie comes when Bashudev also starts liking Sandhya and starts wooing her. Soon both found themselves in love with each other. But on the day of the engagement, Bashudev disappears, and the engagement is called-off. But till then she had been pregnant.
