The comedy family drama Khoobsurat was released on November 26, 1999. The movie was directed by Sanjay Chhel and produced by Rahul Sughand. The main roles in the movie were played by Sanjay Dutt, Om Puri, Urmila Matondkar and Farida Jalal while the roles of Anjan Srivastava and Ashok Saraf were also important. Music of the film was directed by Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit while the songs were sung by Shraddha Pandit, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sukhwinder Singh, Abhijeet and Narayan Parshuram.

Khoobsurat was a good family drama that was far away from the usual romantic movies. More specifically, it was a remake of the famous old classic Bawarchi. The story of the movie is about a small con man Sanju ( Sanjay Dutt ), a person with kind and loving heart and working with Jogia Seth ( Paresh Rawal ) who is a smuggler and to whom Sanju owes 50 lakh bucks. Now to get back his amount, the gangster takes Gudia along. She is an orphan and was taken as a hostage by the gangster.

Sanju was required to pay the complete amount in one months’s time which was like impossible. Thus he was helped by Natwar ( Johnny Lever ) who asks him to visit Chaudhary household as Sanju Shastri and ask for some money. Being left with no other choice, Sanju pays visit to the Chaudhary household as their NRI relative. Now he starts winning the heart of all the members. There are three brothers in the house, Dilip ( Om Puri ), an honest man, Mahesh ( Ashok Saraf ), who is a gambler and Shivani ( Urmila Matondkar ) who is the daughter of Dilip.
