Bollywood action packed movie, Maachis, directed by Gulzar was released on October 25, 1996. The movie starred Chandrachur Singh and Tabu in lead roles while Om Puri, Jimmy Shergill, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Kanwaljeet Singh, Navinder Behl and Ravi Gossain also played important characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was directed by none other than well knwon music director Vishal Bhardwaj while the songs were crooned by Suresh Wadkar, Sanjeev Abhayankar, Hariharan, Lata Mangeshkar and Vinod Sehgal.

The movie starts with a family comprises of Veernedra ( tabu ), her mother and a brother named Jaswant Singh aka Jassi ( Raj Zutshi ). Their life gets upturned when a police officer named Vohra ( Kanwaljeet Singh ) visits their house in search of a criminal named Jimmy ( Jimmy Shergill ). Jaswant playfully introduces Vohra to his pet dog named Jimmy. Voha then takes away Jaswant alongwith him and keeps him in the police custoidy for several days. Few days later, Jaswant returns to his home in a very bad condition.

On seeing Jaswant in such badly wounded condition, Veerendra;s boyfriend, Kripal Singh aka Pali ( Chadrachur Singh ) decides to avenge the humiliation performed on Jaswant from the police team. He joins the party of two hardcore criminals named Commander ( Kulbhushan Kharbanda ) and Sanatan ( Om Puri ) for taking revenge from Vohra. What will happen now?
