Former bollywood actress, Mala Sinha, was born as Alda Sinha on November 11, 1936 in Nepal. She bagan her acting career with Ardhendu Bose’s Roshanara in the year 1952. She then travelled to Bombay where she met film director Kedar Sharma, who casted her in a movie titled Rangeen Ratein. Her first big hit came in the form of Pyaasa in which she replaced the beautiful Madhubala for lead role. Mala Sinha gave a memorable performance in the role of a woman who prefers to marry a rich man rather than a poor poet. The role of the poor poet was played by none other than the great actor and director, Guru Dutt sahab.

Her next film was Dhool Ka Phool which also did well at the box office. She gave a notable performance in her next film titled Phir Subah Hogi. After that she starred in many successful films but she instantly shot to fame after starring opposite Jeetendra in romantic saga Mere Huzoor. Her next film came in the form of Himalaya Ki God Mein which failed to do well at the box office. She gave another splendid performance in the patriotic film Aankhen in which she was casted opposite ‘He-Man’ Dharmendra.

Later she essayed some powerful roles in women-oriented films like Hariyali Aur Raasta, Anpadh and Gumrah. She went on to play supporting roles in the films like Mazdoor Zindabad, Khel etc. In the movie Khel, she gave a powerpacked performance in the role of Madhuri Dixit’s grandmother. The film recieved an overwhelming response from the audiences and did very well at the box office. Her most successful film as a lead heroine is Rajendra Kapoor starrer musical hit Geet.
