Bollywood romantic family movie, Maryada, directed by Arvind Sen and written by Satish Bhatnagar was released in the year 1971. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Mala Sinha in lead roles while Raaj Kumar, Rajendra Nath, Asit Sen, Pran, Bipin Gupta, Helen, Abhi Bhattacharya and Jankidas also played important roles in the film. The hit melodious msuic of the movie was directed by the well known veteran music director duo Kalyanji-Anandji while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mohammed Rafi etc.

The movie starts with a beautiful girl named lalita ( Mala Sinha ), who lives alongwith her widowed mother in a village. She meets with a young and handsome guy named Raja Babu ( Rajesh Khanna ) and instantly falls in love with him. She enquires her mother about Raja Babu but get shocked when her mother forbid her from seeing him anymore. Later she learns that Raja babu is already married and has a son. Another reason for her mother refusal for their marraige is that Lalita is supposed to get married with Diwan ( Abhi Bhattacharya ).

Lalita goes to confront Raja and get another shock when he informs her that he is not the Real Raja babu. He tells her that his real name is Ratan Ram Bahadur. She ask him about the reason for pretending to be Raja babu but he refuse to tell her anything. She decides to not to keep any relation with him anymore. Problem arises for Ratan when Raja babu’s real brother Pran Bahadur ( Pran ) arrives there and confronts him for impersonating Raja babu. What to happen next?
