Yesteryear hit movie, Mausam, directed by Gulzar was released in the year 1975. The movie starred Sanjeev Kumar and Sharmila Tagore in lead roles while Om Shivpuri and Dina Pathak also played important roles in the film. The superhit music of the film was given by Salil Choudhary and the songs were sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi and Bhupinder. The movie is supposed to be inspired from A.J. Cronin’s novel titled The Judas Tree. The film did well at the box office and went on to become a big hit of that year. The film also won the Filmfare Best Movie award.

The movie starts with Dr. Amarnath Gill ( Sanjeev Kumar ) and Chanda ( Sharmila Tagore ). Chanda is the daughter of a local hakim or vaidh, Harihar Thapa ( Om Shivpuri ). Amar visits Darjeeling for his medical exams and meets with Chanda. They starst meeting continously and falls in love with each other. They even develops sexual relations also with each other. Suddenly, Amar is called back for some reason. He promises Chanda that he will return soon.

But he fails to keep his promise. After almost twenty-five years later, he finally returns and searches for Chanda. He reveals that Harihar died after getting Chanda, who was pregnant at that time, with a old man. Amar tries to serach her but all goes in vain. Then one day he spots a girl, Kajli, who completely resembles Chanda. Later he finds that Kajli is actually the daughter of Chanda. He also discovers that Chanda is died now and Kajli is working as a prostitue after getting molested by her cruel and horny mama.
