The Devotional drama movie, Meera was released on 18 May 1979. Premji produced and Gulzar directed the movie. The lead cast of the movie included Hema Malini, Vinod Khanna, Shammi Kapoor and Shreeram Lagoo while Amjad Khan, Bharat Bhushan, A K Hangal and Om Shiv Puri played the supporting roles. Vani Jairam sang the songs while Pt Ravi Shankar and Vijay Raghav Rao gave the music for the movie.

Once during the Mughal rule in India, the Rajputs assemble to conspire against Baadshah Akbar, who is Emperor of Hindustan (India) at that time. Two Prominent Rajputs Virendev Rathod and Rana Vikramjit Singh Sesodia plan to strengthen their relationship by wedding Vikramjit’s brother, Rana Bhojraj ( Vinod Khanna )with Krishna Rathod( Vidya Sinha ). But unknown to Virendev, his son, Jaimal ( Dinesh Thakur )had already arranged Krishna’s wedding with another Rajput family from Ajmer.

Faced with two grooms, Virendev asks Krishna to commit suicide, which she does by consuming poison for the well being of the Rajputs .Later, the Sesodias propose to marry Bhojraj with Meera Rathod. Everyone agrees and the wedding ceremony takes place uniting the Rajputs against Akbar. After the marriage, Bhojraj discovers that his wife, Meera loves and has devoted her life and soul to Lord Krishna. Meera’s infidelity baffled everyone and she was asked to accept her husband Bhojraj and forget about Lord Krishna or else drink a potently lethal poison, which will kill her instantly.
