Bollywood movie, Mission Kashmir, written and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra was rleased on October 27, 2000. The movie starred Sanjay Dutt, Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in lead roles while Sonali Kulkarni and Jackie Shrauff also played important characters in the movie. The movie was distributed under the banner of Destination Films. The music of the film was given by the famous trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and the songs were sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Jaspinder narula, Sunidhi Chauhan, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Vinod Rathod, Anuradha Paudwal, Mahalaxmi Iyer and Ehsaan Noorani. The film went on to do moderately well at the box office and became the third highest grossing film of that year.

The movie starts with a young boy named Altaaf ( Hrithik Roshan ) whose family gets killed by police officers. Inayat Khan ( Sanjay Dutt ) is a police officer who is responsible for this. In order to wipe out the whole group of terrorists, Inayat Khan accidently ends up killing the entire family of Altaaf along with the terrorist. Inayat and his wife, Neelima ( Sonali Kulkarni ) decides to adopt Altaaf. Altaaf has no clue about the person who killed his family. But one day, Altaaf finds out that Inayat Khan is responsible for his family’s death.

Altaaf runs away from the home and meets Hilal Kohistani ( Jackie Shrauff ), who is the head of a terrorist group. Altaaf is asked to kill Muslims and Hindus in the Valley of Kashmir. He visits there and meets his childhood love, Sufiya Parvez ( Preity Zinta ). Inayat, who is now an Inspector General for Kashmir, gets the information about Altaaf and his plan. Now both, Khan and Altaaf, are after each other so that they can kill one another.
