Bollywood romantic comedy, Mr. Bechara, starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in lead roles was released on August 30, 1996. The movie was written and directed by K. Bhagyaraja. The other starcast of the film includes Nagarjuna, Anupam Kher, Shakti Kapoor, Tiku Talsania, Heera Rajgopal, Avtar Gill, Baby Vandana, Rakesh Bhanushali and Mahavir Shah in important roles. The hit music of the film was given by the hit music director duo Anand-Milind and Surendra Singh Sodhi in collaboration while the songs were crooned by Udit Narayan, Abhijeet, Poornima, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and Sadhana Sargam.

The movie starts with Dr. Dayal Anand ( Anupam Kher ), who is a doctor by profession. He ask his friend, Anand Verma ( Anil Kapoor ) to do a favour to him. He ask Anand to keep his pateint, who does not remember anything about her past, for some time as it would not be possible for him to keep her in the hospital for some more days. Anand reluctantly agrees. Anand brings her to his home and names her Asha ( Sridevi ). Dr. Dayal convince Asha that Anand is his husband and they have a child. Asha accepts this relationship as she fails to remember her past.

Anand and Asha starst living under the same roof but Anand never tries to go close to Asha. This creates doubt in the mid of Asha and she questions this to Dr. Dayal. Dr. Dayal somehow manage to convince that she and Anand had a big figth before her accident. Asha now decides to make Anand love her. Soon they both falls in love with each other and plans to get married. But before they could get married, a guy named Ajay ( Nagarjuna ) enters in their life and claims that Asha is Anita, his fiance?
