Naukar was a comical drama movie released on December 7, 1979. Govindram and Ismail Menon produced while Ismail Menon directed the movie himself. The star cast of the movie involved Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bachchan while Mehmood, Madhu Malini, Yogita Bali, Manmohan Krishna, Lalita Pawar and Jalal Agha played the supporting roles. Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi sang the songs while R D Burman gave the music for the movie.

Amar ( Sanjeev Kumar ) is a wealthy widow and resides with his daughter and a servant, Dayal ( Mehmood ).His relatives desire him to marry again so that his daughter may get the love and care of a mother. Initially he refuses as he feels that a stepmother won’t be able to care for his daughter as her biological mother would have been.However, his sister and brother – in – law convince him for second marriage.

Soon, they find out and approach suitable women. To remove his doubts and his daughter’s concern, Amar shows up as Dayal and Dayal as Amar at their place. They arrive at the household of Durga, Shanti Swarup, Renu, Sheela, and their servant Geeta ( Jaya Bachchan ). Dayal was sheltered in a well-furnished room while Amar in the servant’s quarters. While spending too much time with Geeta, Amar realizes that he is attracted to her. But presently he cannot reveal his emotions towards her. Meanwhile ,Durga suspects Amar for his true identity .
