Jeetendra and Rekha starrer romantic flick, Niyat, was released on September 5, 1980. The movie was directed by Anil Ganguly. The other starcast of the movie includes Shashi Kapoor, Shreeram Lagoo, Rakesh Roshan, Ranjeet and Bindu in significant characters. The hit romantic music of the movie was directed by the well known veteran music director duo Kalyanji Anandji while the songs were beautifully crooned by Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Amit Kumar Ganguly, Nitin Mukesh and Asha Bhonsle.

The movie starred Jeetendra in the male lead character. Jeetendra had played a young guy in the movie who loves to life king size. He is happy go lucky kind of person. His life gets changed completely when he come across a beautiful girl ( played by Rekha ). He falls in love with Rekha and tries to woo her but fails miserably. He is determined to make Rekha fall in love with him at any cost. He tries his level best for this but nothing goes in his way. The movie also starred few yesteryear hit actors likes Rakesh Roshan and Shashi Kapoor in the film.

The movie did well at the box office and Jeetendra once again got highly acclaimed for his absolute stunning performance in the film. Rekha too displayed her acting talent in brief. The pair of Jeetendra and Rekha in the film made the movie a big hit at the box office. The movie is still remembered for its soulful music which also played an important part in making the movie a big hit among audience.
