The comical movie, Pakhandee starring Helen, Shashi Kapoor, Ranjeet, Leela Misra, Zeenat Aman, Asha Parekh, Jagdeep and Sanjeev Kumar was released in 1984. Robert D’ Souza was the producer and Samir Ganguly was the director of the movie. Laxmikant-Pyarelal gave the music while Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle and Amit Kumar sung the songs for the movie. Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist for the movie.

Ashok Ahuja ( Sanjeev Kumar )is sentenced imprisonment for having accused of running away with the bride’s jewellery on her day of marriage. In prison, he befriends another prisoner named Kishore ( Shashi Kapoor ). Ashok plans to fake illness and to elope from the prison. Kishore also reveals that he is in search of his lost brother who has a unique kind of a tattoo on his hand that he very well recognizes. After his release from prison, Kishore firstly visits a homoeopathic doctor. He cheats the doctor through his smart acts and stays there that night.

Ashok also is released from prison. Kishore returns home to his guardian a woman, Asha (Asha Parekh) whom he rescued through a suicide attempt and her son. Once in bar, Kishore meets the boss’s son, Ranjeet who hires him in his plan of cheating Preeti ( Zeenat Aman ), the daughter of a rich father and stealing over her money. Coincidently, Ashok is also behind Preeti. Preeti’s dad arranges her marriage with Ashok.Initially Kishore pretends to be Ashok’s younger brother. However, after some time Preeti is impressed with him and decides to marry him.
