The comedy drama Pestonjee was released in the year of 1988 under the banner of N F D C. The movie was directed by Vijay Mehta. The main roles in the movie were played by Naseruddin Shah, Chandu Parkhi, Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher while the presence of Kiran Thakur, Kirron Kher, Cyprus Dastoor, Dady Dastoor and Farroukh Mehta supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Vanraj Bhatia while the story was written by Vijaya Mehta.

Pestonjee was a comedy cum drama flick that revolved mostly around two people Phirojshah ( Naseeruddin Shah ) and Pestonjee ( Anupam Kher ) who are also two close friends. They are very close friends and wanted to do many instead every thing together and with the help of each other. Their friendship was so strong that they even wanted to marry the same day. The twist in the story comes when both of them goes to see the same lady Jeroo ( Shabana Azmi ).

While Phirojshah wasn’t able to marry her, Pestonjee got married to Jeroo one day. Phirojshah has been stricken by Jeroo’s beauty and decides not to marry, and takes a transfer away from the couple. During the years, he was away from the bride; he kept in touch with them through writing mails to them. One day when he visits them, he finds that Pestonjee has a mistress, and Jeroo does not know of this. The movie now showcases how this thing affects their friendship.
