Phaansi was an action thriller released on March 9, 1978. The movie was directed as well as produced by Harmesh Malhotra. The main roles in the movie were played by Shashi Kapoor and Sulakhshana Pandit while the presence of Ranjeet and Pran supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Laxmikant Kudalkar and Pyarelal while the lyrics were given by Anand Bakshi, Gulshan Bawra and Majrooh Sultanpuri.

Phaansi was an action cum thriller film that was like the other movies released at that time. The movie was directed by the famous director Harmesh Malhotra who had directed movies like Patthar Aur Payal released in 1974, Choron Ki Barat released in 1980 and Amiri Garibi released in 1990 while his first film as a director was Beti released in 1969. The movie was also produced by him and made his debut with the movie Gaddar released in 1973 as a producer.

The male lead in the film was played by Shashi Kapoor who has acted in movies like Ram Darshan released in 1950, Holiday In Bombay released in 1963 and Roti Kapada Aur Makan released in 1974 while his first film as an actor was Tadbir released in 1945. The female lead in the movie was played by Sulakhshana Pandit who had acted in the movies like Shankar Shambhu released in 1976, Kasam Khoon Ki released in 1977 and Chehre Pe Chehra released in 1980 while her fist film was Sankalp released in 1974.
