Pratighat was a social drama released on April 10, 1987 under the banner of Usha Kiron Movies. The movie was directed by N Chandra and produced by Ramoji Rao. The important roles in the movie were enacted by Sujata Mehta, Arvind Kumar, Charan Raj and Nana Patekar while Rohini Hattangadi, Ashok Saraf and Mohan Bhandari were also present in the film. The music of the film was directed by Ravindra Jain while the songs were sung by Sripathi Panditharadyula Balasubramaniam, S Janaki and Mohammed Aziz.

Pratighat was a social drama flick that revolved mostly around a village called Dharampura which is a small village in rural India. The important thing to note about this village is that it was terrorized by a gangster named Kali Prasad ( Charan Raj ) and it was like his own territory. Everyone followed his orders since he was backed by the famous and powerful personalities like the local MLA. Thus he does whatever he liked and that too without any fear of getting arrested.

The twist in the story comes when a constable Karamveer ( Nana Patekarar ) rests him. The very next day, Kali gets himself released and goes directly to Karamveer’s place where he abducts and rapes his wife. Not only this, he also beat him up and left in the road. In addition to this thing, when Durga’s ( Rohini Hattangadi ) husband opposes him, he kills him right in front of his wife and other city people. The Police Inspector Ajay Srivastav was also in the bad books of the gangster and he has him killed.
