Sadma was a romantic movie that was released on July 8, 1983. The movie was directed by Balu Mahendra and produced by Raj Sippy. The major roles in the movie were played by Kamal Hassan, Silk Smita, Sridevi and Gulshan Grover while the roles of Leela Mishra, Asha Lata, Birbal, Padma Chavan and Arvind Deshpande were equally important. The songs of the movie were sung by Suresh Wadkar, Kamal Hassan, Sridevi, Vijay Yesudas and Asha Bhosle while the lyrics were given by Gulzar.

Sadma was a romantic movie that revolved mostly around a young girl named Laxmi ( Sridevi ) for whom the life takes a turn when one day she was going out to party and met with an accident while driving her car. She was badly hurt and was required to be hospitalized. She was treated upon but was in coma. The twist in the story comes when after getting fit she loses her memory and starts behaving like a small six year old child.

Laxmi was unable to recollect any of her memory of the past and thus ends up getting in a brothel after she had run away from the place. There she is befriended by a naive, shy, and single male school-teacher, Somu ( Kamal Hassan ), who decides to help her out. He also helps her overcome her loneliness and befriends with her. Laxmi and Somu become really good friends but none knew that the police was looking out for Laxmi and her kidnappers.
