The social offbeat film Salam Bombay was released in the year of 1988 under the banner of N F D C. Yhe movie was directed as well as produced by Mira Nair. The lead roles in the movie were played by Raghuveer Yadav, Anita Kanwar, Nana Patekar and Shafiq while the roles of Amrit Patel, Irfan Kamal, Yunus Parvez, Sanjana Kapoor and Anjan Srivastava were also important. The music of the film was directed by L. Subramaniam while the story was written by Sooni Taraporevala.

The movie Salam Bombay was a social offbeat film that showcases the lives of kids residing on the streets of Bombay. The movie is the story of Krishna ( Shafiq ), Manju ( Hansa Vithal ), Chillum ( Raghuveer Yadav ) and the other children on the streets of Bombay. The movie highlights their lives and what they do to earn their living. They can get temporary job by selling tea but mostly have to beg for money and thus keep out of the way of police.

The movie starts with Krishna burning his motor bike as he was fed up of his elder brother’s bulling. This thing got him in trouble with his mother. She takes him to the nearby Apollo Circus and tells him that if he wants to come home back he should earn atleast Rs 500 to make out for the damaged bike. Krishna agrees to do so and finds employment with the circus. One day the manager of the circus sends him on a duty but when he returned he was shocked to find that the circus has moved somewhere else.
